Here are a few highlights and news tidbits from the past month:

    May Madness!

If you missed it, we held our tryouts in the compressed window mandated by NorCal in early May.  The younger ages went first followed immediately by our order teams. In the span of only 11 days, we held three sessions in every age group and our coaches had long looks at an impressive level of talent and athleticism represented by approximate 1,600 players. Kudos and thanks to all the staff and volunteers who ensured that everything ran smoothly. Special gratitude to all who braved the heavy rains on the last day. That cloudburst seemed like a punch thrown after the bell, but in the end it didn’t even leave a mark.

The second half of May’s madness is the turnover to the new season. Several teams finished their state cup runs with Impressive results (see links below), financial aid was prepared, and the new season registration of all players was handled. We’re getting better at all these necessary tasks, so thanks go to everyone who observes deadlines and tackles these details expeditiously. As the dust settles, we’re enjoying a modest increase in players in the club and an increase in teams from 54 to 60.  In combination, this results in healthy rosters, which in turn creates effective training environments and game days.

Rolling into June, many of our new teams are well on their way to planning and implementing their training schedules. New and returning managers and treasurers are sharpening their pencils and donning their leadership caps. We cannot thank these volunteers enough and the board and staff remain committed to ensuring our team leaders have the guidance and support they deserve. Specifically, we have two new manager/treasurer mentors this year to help in any capacity necessary.

And into the summer … As schools wrap up and summer plans beckon, we also know that many anxious players want to get out and get going in preparation for the fall.  For those players on teams not practicing until later in the summer, we will again offer our July Juniors ‘Camp’ for U8 through U11 players. This consolidated training opportunity is free to all Marin FC players in the Juniors age group.  Schedules will be posted into the team’s teamsnap calendars as optional events across the three weeks of July after the July 4th Holiday, so look for them and come out and play!

Here are a few highlights and news tidbits from the past month:

MFC celebrated a big month. First we had our Blue Teams take part in the NPL Showcase. Sadly, Mother Nature did not cooperate and it rained on the first day of competition, allowing our teams to compete for only one day.  Despite conditions that were less than ideal, our teams impressed and went undefeated.

We entered four teams into the State Cup Finals and come our victorious in 3 of the 4 finals! The 02G Blue, 04G Blue and 05G Blue came away as State Cup Champions!  Of note the 05G Blue emerged victorious in the State Cup Final of the Gold Division.  Huge kudos to the club all around as we are the only club that had 3 teams playing for the right to be called State Champions! Tryouts for 2019-2020 season went well and the Club received positive feedback from the community. In particular, the Club saw a large increase in the numbers of players, witnessed well-staffed tryouts that were run professionally both on the administrative side and on the pitch.  We acknowledge that challenging decisions had to be made and initial feedback is that most everyone is pleased with how well everything turned out. We are still finishing out a terrific 18/19 season and look forward to more success in the19/20 season.

Eloi Vazquez “Living for the Game” Scholarship: In 2019, MFC and Eloi’s family are working together to create a new event in Eloi’s honor. We hope to announce details soon.
